Clay pottery

Pottery is an art of furnishing the clay in various shapes and size. Potters do posses such skill which enables them to mould the lumps of clay in to an eye catching sculpture or utensils. Since ages Bangladesh has proved herself as one of the most talented nation in pottery products. This is an art which has been followed since the human civilization has developed. Invention of potter’s wheel gave man the way of making beautiful shaped statue and the utensils. The lump of clay used for pottery can’t just be of any type. While choosing the clay for his work, a potter has to be very cautious. Clay must be soft, malleable, free from impurities and not too rigid. There are various kinds of clay available all around, but pottery needs certain special kind of clay like potters clay, ceramic and porcelain. In ancient days pottery was only used to develop few home utensils to cater basic needs. But now days it’s also been used for decoration purpose like under-glaze decoration, in-glaze decoration, on-gaze decoration, enamel and many more. It is believed that glazed pottery was brought in Bangladesh from Arabian countries. Terracotta works is also one of the most fabulous products of pottery. Clay toys and tanjore doll were once the most famous clay products in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi pottery has now implanted its feet even in various parts of the world where these artistic works are worth possessing.
